Although he is mostly remembered for his work in silent-films, Charlie Chaplin’s career influenced many other sectors of the movie industry as well.  Chaplin was born in London in 1889 and got his start as a child actor in 1894.  He gained popularity in the states during his North American tours and would sign on with Keystone Studios in 1913.  He began making silent films and reached celebrity status very quickly.  Chaplin is often noted as the first actor to ever have international stardom.  Then and now people easily recognize his key character “The Tramp”, known for his bowler hat and mustache.  His fame allowed him to negotiate contracts with production companies that gave him nearly free creative reign on his films, which was unprecedented.  His creative control, amazing acting, and molding of movies would mark him down in history as one of the greats.  His writing, producing, acting, and directing skills helped shape the modern movie industry and are still marveled at today.charlie chaplin
